 Excerpt From the Book:

I planned to kill mother with Atropa belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade or the devilís herb. The downfall of emperors and kings! I was 7, and I read about it in one of her herbalist books. Do you think mom was a witch? That would explain a lot.
I had visions of her staggering over. I saw her dilated pupils. The pulse at her wrist was only a flutter. All I had to do was think of that poor goat down the well and I was putting on my boots to track down the plant.
Ten to twenty berries or just one single leaf.
I am talking here of a woman who nearly killed me.
